Family dining at Leicester’s Boo Burger.

I am going to share with you our experience dining at Boo Burgers on London Road. I have a huge soft spot for family-run eateries and this restaurant definitely did not disappoint.

When you step in, you will be totally amazed at the clear branding and bright interiors. I was impressed. Its all in the little details and oh boy, I sure loved Boo’s finer details. Things like the wordings on the cups, the font of the menu and even their refillable drink machine. I kept wanting to shout out at my husband, Hey Boo! I kid you not.

We dine with our toddler everywhere and this establishment is ultra kid friendly with their bright red high chairs and their special Boo.Kids menu. No stress and we get to enjoy our food in peace. She was definitely a happy Boo.Kid. Burger + fries + drink for £5! What a deal for the little ones and great job to the team for the comfortable and relaxed environment too.

Let’s get to the MOST important and crucial part when dining out (or in) .. the taste and the quality of the food. I will let the pictures speak for themselves BUT will you just LOOK at that shiny cheese. Their cheesy fries takes the cake for me. It was so good, I LOVED it. Reasonably priced at £3 too. We also tried their Sticky as well as Buffalo Wings. The wings were on point, I preferred the Sticky and the husband enjoyed the Buffalo ones.

Sticky Wings

I went all out and stuffed my face. Cheesy fries, wings, milkshake and of course one needs to try their burger. The place is called Boo Burger.

I could not decide whether to have a beef or the chicken burger. Oh decisions decisions. Haha! I was thrilled with my Chick-A-Boo when I sunk my teeth into it. In all honesty, I knew my other half is going to order the classic beef one. Trust me to ‘test’ it too.

Chick-A-Boo

The Chick-A-Boo’s deep fried chicken breast fillet was crunchy and oh so tasty. The sauce complemented the crispy fillet and the bun very well. (Shhh, it might have been better than a KFC Zinger burger and that is one of my all time guilty pleasures).

My other half tried Boo Burger’s Haystack served with onion strings! Just take a peek at that mouth watering burger. Whoops, I hope you were not too hungry. The thinner onion ‘strings’ were lush and a lovely addition to the burger.

Not only does the burgers get a huge thumbs up from the adults, the child loved it too. Funny enough, when I was pregnant with her .. all I wanted to eat was burgers.

If you have a tenner, scoot along and try Boo Burger. Their high quality food really do speak for themselves and you get lovely service as well. Ps. why not eh? You will get to feast on a burger + fries + drink all for less than a tenner!

Ice Monster Taipei – Taiwanese Desserts

We jumped at the chance of a baby-free outing when my parents volunteered to babysit.  I quickly did some research and decided that we should definitely try one of the most famous desserts in Taiwan – shaved ice. We dropped in at one of the top shaved ice eateries, Ice Monster.

The menu is definitely something, the variety was endless .. it was so tough for us to make a decision. We settled on their bestseller, the Mango and the Bubble Milk Tea Sensation. You can also take a peek at how they prepare your desserts as they do it right by their doorway.

Check out their branding .. got to love their ‘grumpy’ bright yellow monster.

When our desserts arrived, we just stared at each other .. channeling ‘ITS HUGE’ thoughts. Overwhelming, we should have shared but we we were greedy and wanted to try more than one flavour.

On first bite, I was rather surprised at the silky smooth texture of the ice. Quite different compared to the Malaysian shaved ice dessert (Ice Kacang) that I grew up with. Super soft shaved ice that melts in your mouth like cotton candy. Amazing! Refreshing and oh very addictive. They must add some sort of condensed milk to the ice. The mango was very fresh and this is not surprising at all as Taiwanese mangoes are abundant.

Bubble Tea Sensation was interesting, looked like a Chewbacca. It was a deconstructed bowl of ‘frozen’ bubble tea. Creamy ribbon like shaved ice served with a side of ‘pearls’.

The bill came up to 400 TWD , about £10. Definitely quite dear if you compare this to a street stall selling shaved ice but cannot complain for the quality, variety and experience 🙂

One for the books, baby-free ‘date night’ when we were on holibobs.
